Comic Con!

  • So I just came back from the Toronto Comic Convention today! It was great! I had heard that it wasn’t that good, and I agree that it could have been better, it was still super neat! I went with my friend Jamaal, and he’s a HUGE comic-book geek.

The first thing I saw when we entered the building was a woman dressed up as the Phoenix, that’s when I knew this was gonna be awesome!

There was so much cosplay at this convention, it was crazy! Especially the women, WAHHH! LOL! But some of the costumes were really well done! Basically every character from Star Wars was there, X-Men Mutants, The Joker, Batman, Ghostbusters, Captain America, Master Chief, Thor and SO MANY MORE! I can’t even remember all of them! So that was awesome!

We met a lot of celebrities which was surreal, maybe not to you, but to me it was crazy! We met Ray Park who played DARTH MAUL in SW: Phantom Menace! Also from Phantom Menace we met young Anakin Skywalker (can’t remember his name at the moment, but he’s OLD now!) Peter Mayhew who played the original Chewbacca (FYI, he has HUMONGOUS HANDS! And he’s really hairy in real life). Jeremy Bulloch who played Bobba Fett! (That still sounds insane when I say it!) Scott Thompson from Kids In The Hall. Julie Benz from Buffy and Angel. Dustin Diamond who played Screech in Saved By The Bell! (That was surreal!) And we met so MANY OTHERS, not HUGE actors but still pretty influential in the nerd world.

I managed to see Billy Dee Williams, (who I’m not going to say who he played in Star Wars because if you don’t know, then you live in a hole), but the line up was really long! But it was still awesome to see that man…

There were so many booths to see! They had comic books, graphic novels, artwork, t-shirts, replicas, costumes, EVERYTHING! They lacked on a few things in my opinion, but I’m sure it’ll be better at Fan Expo (SO STOKED FOR THAT!) I really enjoyed the independent artists who were there, I found them to be more talented than the noted artists. There were also a lot of interesting shops, for example they had this store that was basically taken from World Of Warcraft! They sold stuff like chain mail, potions, armor, fake swords and daggers and stuff like that. I was LITERALLY SO CLOSE to buying a pair of elf ears, but I had insufficient funds. (Fan Expo will be a whole different ball game!) They had booths where they sold super hero masks and costumes too, which was cool. Comic Books were DIRT cheap! $1-$2 each, vintage ones too!

I picked up a graphic novel called “WE3”. I’m kind of starting fresh on graphic novels, so the guy told me this is a killer one to start off on. You guys should check it out!

Sorry, I have to rant for a sec about something that bugged me. SO, you’re holding this HUGE convention that brings in thousands of people into one large room. People walk around and they get hungry and tired. You’d THINK they would have a cafeteria or a food court, or an assortment of restaurants. Nope. Instead, ALL THEY HAD was a small, tiny (and I can’t stress how small it was) Pizza Pizza booth. It was a 2 man operation, seriously. The line up was insane! I just find that really stupid. At least make the Pizza place a bit bigger! GOD! But they gave me an extra slice, so I was happy.

Overall after having a day filled with wicked cosplay, nerdy celebrities, cheap comic books, fantastic comic artwork, sword battling (which was kinda lame xD), and just admiring the whole melange of nerdy pop culture; it was an awesome and tiring day. AND JUST WAIT! Fan Expo is coming up this August and it is going to be LEGENDARY! I’m stoked for this! I’ll have more money, so I can buy more stuff and I now know how to make my way around a convention room!

Countdown to Fan Expo starts now! ;)
